Saving means sacrificing getting rewards early on. If you want 1 gold, you need 6 astral tokens. You get 1g for doing all 4 dailies, which is less than before and you need to spend tokens to get back what you were earning yesterday for less. Edited August 22 by Randulf.7614. This is one of the biggest pulls for newbies when it comes to indulging in an MMORPG. After all, committing to a monthly fee for a game can feel unnatural at first if players are mostly used to paying a one-time fee or just paying for cosmetics. But GW2 lets players access the entire base game up to max level for free. This lets players really

IMO a monthly fee would kill Guild Wars 2 by destroying its' niche, alienating the fanbase and giving casual players an incentive to quit. There are better options, such as buyable content packs. -- Gordon Ecker 06:23, 21 August 2008 (UTC) There is no need for monthly fees lol ppl.

I know original Guild Wars had no sub free either, but, GW2 is a completely different game with an open world like WoW, SWTOR etc (last time I checked). Now, monthly fee is there to maintain servers, patches, game upgrades, etc. How is this going to work when there's no monthly fee? I am looking
Exactly why I switched to GW2 after years of trying to keep up with ESO. Take a break from ESO and your guilds kick you so you can't sell anything, you spend weeks trying to figure out the new combat system (it's always changing), there are a million new expansions to buy.

However, Guild Wars 2 will make its money on boxed sales, paid expansion boxed sales and cosmetic microtransactions. I see. I hope the game will keep selling years after it launched. I still see the original Guild Wars at my local Gamestop, so I guess if it keeps selling they should be able to make a profit off of it.

Most sub 2 play games lack that high quality content that keeps players around and then they turn into free 2 play/ pay 2 win models with the same garbage quality content. 16 years Guild Wars has used this business model and is still going strong and growing. That is proof that a sub fee is not required to support a game.

Alternate Idea II - Factions. Allow players to register their own Factions/Kingdoms with an anarchy system for say $20 and $10 a month, maybe +0.5$ per every member. Benefits is to allow players to gain another PvP for Besieging, and raiding. All those who are a part of the factions (only leader pays) can freely raid other factions for gold
Guild Wars uses the same medieval fantasy setting as other MMOs, but it sets itself apart with an instance-based combat system and high graphics quality. It was also one of the first games to use a business model that didn't depend on a monthly subscription fee. The legacy continues and it still won't cost you anything to try.
