Developers improved handling of hired drivers already and greatly. Don't remember in which order anymore but they : a) changed the save file format for a lighter one, b) truncated their history to just one week (when they added support for Steam Cloud), c) moved auto-save on a separate thread.

Buy a new Class B (or mid-grade truck) whenever it's financially possible and hire a new driver. I never saw the point of giving a driver a top-of-the-line truck or sticking them with a crap truck - both seemed like a waste of money. Cheapest, but after a while, I like to give the best driver or if I have money left, new truck. Since I have close to 2 billion euros in the game, I gave 8x4 scania and volvo trucks to all of them. I have more than 300 trucks and drivers. I wish we could see our drivers on the roads.
Of course it helps, since it's pointless to pay a driver if he doesn't have a truck a drive. Your problem is you haven't driven enough to find enough employment centers yet. Once you get a few employment centers discovered you will find drivers to hire, the more employment centers you find, the more drivers will be available for hire.

Hey everyone. I'm in the process of enlarging my fleet (if you can call 3 trucks in total a fleet lol), and I have a question. Is it "better" to buy the cheapest trucks and then upgrade them to some extent/max or buy the trucks that meet certain requirements? For example, my first truck was the cheapest Renault.
